Lebanese born designer, Reem Acra set up her fashion house in New York in 1997 and soon established herself as a trendsetter in luxury bridal wear and evening gowns. Reem Acra is recognized nowadays for her signature use of embroidery, creating an intricate gold bullion needlework and shadow embroidery sewn under rich fabrics.
Reem Acra’s exquisite gowns exude her own innate sense of style, love of fashion and an exceptional attention to detail. Acra’s unique fabric combinations and signature beaded embroideries translate in unique pieces which her customers cherish at the most special events in their lives.
Celebrated for her ability to match a look to a woman’s personality, Acra has dressed global icons of style for weddings, red carpet appearances and awards ceremonies. Her following includes Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Beyonce Knowles, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Eva Longoria as well as royal families around the world.
Another secret of Reem’s is in interior design as those who have been lucky enough to see her showroom or her residences can attest to. But Reem doesn’t only keep this to herself – helping her friends find the right interior design to match their personality is something that she has slowly embarked on and plans to share with many more people as she develops a range of interior fabrics and decorations for the future. Reem’s latest new venture will be to take her legendary parties to event planning – whether it’s a discreet affair or a Royal Wedding for 5,000.
It is the subtle and thoughtful connection between a rider and its horse, striving to become one coupled by her love for nature and horses that have inspired Acra to become a fervent supporter of equestrian sports, especially dressage. In a recent interview to Equestrio magazine, Reem Acra said: ” I always dreamed of horses when I was a little girl and never had the chance to really realise my dream. I tackled horseback riding just before I left Beirut abruptly and I left behind my gear and my helmet. it was a dream that was cut short”.
Reem Acra became the sponsor of the FEI World Cup Final in Dressage in 2011, which took place in Leipzig and has pledged to continue her sponsorship of the prestigous event. The 2012 Reem Acra FEI World Cup Final in Dressage will take place April 19-22 in historical town of Hertogenbosch, 80 km from Amsterdam, in The Netherlands. The calendar will also includes, jointly, the 2012 Rolex FEI Wold Cup Final Jumping, taking place during the same dates, in the same venue, the Brabanthalle in Hertogenbosch.
Speaking of Reem Acra’s continued sponsorship, FEI President, HRH Princess Haya said: ”The Reem Acra brand will add even more glamour to what is already one of the world’s most stylish sports”.HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein is the wife of the Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and daughter of the late King of Jordan.
Reem Acra also sponsors the Best Athlete Award, this year’s winner being Adelinde and her powerful chestnut gelding Jerich Parzival. The Dutch duo won all five qualifiers they competed in before dancing to victory to the sound of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite at the Final in Leipzig, Germany. At the FEI European Dressage Championships in August 2011, she won both Individual Freestyle and the Individual Grand Prix Special in Rotterdam.
