Tax free shopping in Italy by Chinese travellers increases by 70%

According to a research by Monitor Altagamma (Association of Italian Luxury Brands) and Global Blue, sales of tax free sales in Italy have increased by 31% in the first 9 months of 2011 compared to 2010, reaching a value of 3,5 billion euros which corresponds to 19% of the overall European market. 

Sales to Chinese shopper increase by a record of 70%, followed by sales to Brazilians which increased by 45% and Russians by 34%. Sales at major luxury outlet centers grew by 66%. Sales of luxury fashion grew by 29% while sales of hard luxury (jewellery, watches) rose by 22%.
