Romanian seaside 5 star hotels far from international luxury standards

GRAND HOTEL REX, MAMAIA, VEGA are the only 5 star category hotels on the Romanian BlackSea side coast, all of them located in Mamaia. None of the three hotels would qualify for a higher rating than 4 stars in any western European resort town.
While Grand Hotel Rex excels in services, its restaurant and room facilities are at a 4 star. Bathrooms and furniture need renovation to live up to the standards of any international chain, even if a marketing chain such as Leading Hotels of the World, Preffered or Summit.
We could not find any five star criteria at Mamaia Hotel, once owned by local state authorities. As for the recently opened VEGA Hotel, standard room size is not of five star category and quality of services is disappointing. One of the odd things we discovered at the new VEGA Hotel is that the small parking of the hotel is reserved for hotel guests, therefore outsiders are not welcome to enjoy the facilities, such as bar, restaurant etc. The security person at the gate advises outsiders to search for parking outside the hotel area, which is practically impossible as nearby hotel guests are parking their cars on green areas due to lack of space.
However, we were pleasantly surprised to discover 4 star hotels which are worth of a 5 star rating. Such is the ARCADIA Hotel within Marina Regia complex or RICHMOND Hotel. With a colonial, art deco interior design and architectura, Arcadia is a very elegant property, with all five star facilities needed. The individually decorated rooms feature colonial and mediterranean furniture, with original artefacts. Some of the bathrooms have a direct sea view and large balconies allow for stunning sea views. being part of an exclusive complex, it is a very peaceful and quiet environment ensuring absolute privacy and intimacy.
