Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons and Kempinski speed up expansion in Africa
The annual economic growth rate which exceeds five percent across several countries in Africa, has prompted international luxury hotel chains to speed up expansion. Top destinations in terms of growth potential are Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Angola and Botswana.
Ritz Carlton is confirmed to open in Cairo, Tunis and Marrakech by mid 2014. Further 17 new hotel projects by Ritz Carlton are in the pipeline in other parts of Africa. Kempinski Hotels opens this month its first hotel in Nairobi, with other openings confirmed for Agadir, Akkra and Cairo within the next 2 years.
Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts has been successfully implementing its expansion strategy in Africa too, with both new developments and take over / re-branding of hotels in operation. Four Seasons has confirmed openings in Casablanca (first quarter 2014) and Agadir – both new developments and in Johannesburg the take over of the management of The Westcliff Johannesburg, due to re-open as Four Seasons first quarter 2014.
Armani Hotels and LVMH Hotel Management have confirmed openings in Morocco, Oman and Egypt. Armani Resort Hotel & Residences in Marrakech is currently under construction, while LVMH has not released updates.
