Riccardo Tisci, the new designer at DIOR ?
Givenchy‘s designer Riccardo Tisci is said to be the front runner to take over the creative direction of Christian Dior, following the firing of John Galliano. The same change between the two brands happend 7 years ago, when Galliano was a designer at Givenchy and then traferred to Dior, leaving Alexander Mc Queen in charge at Givenchy.
Unlike the previous ”change”, the possible appointment of Tisci would come more a compromise imposed by the pressure to find a replacement to meet the Dior ”criteria” from a style point of view as well as a good relationship with company owner Bernard Arnault and CEO Sydney Toledano.
Other designers such as Alber Elbaz, now at Lanvin, are rumoured for the position. Tisci’s work at Givenchy has had huge media following, critics praising him for his bold designs, his haute couture collections standing out as minimal, intriguing and sometimes neutral. Despite maintaining a steady increase, the Givenchy maison remains one of the smallest brands within parent company LVMH and has had a sluggish pace of expansion to ensure profitability.
