Qatar Sovereign Fund acquires Grand Hotel Baglioni in Florence
Qatar Sovereign Fund has recently acquired the Grand Hotel Baglioni, one of Florence’s landmark hotels, with an unrivalled location in the heart of Florence, on Piazza Unita. Opend in 1903, the 193 room heritage hotel used to be the residence of the Carrega-Bertolini family. Qatar Sovereign Fund acquired the hotel from the Monaco family, present owners, for an alleged 30 million euros, with the intention of upgrading the hotel to the highest luxury category (currently the hotel is rated 4 stars). Florence is one of Italy’s top tourism destinations, with a wide luxury hospitality offering. Apart from several independent hotels, international luxury hotel chains such as Four Seasons, St Regis and Rocco Forte operate luxury properties in Florence.
