Prestigious Tortugas Polo Open Championship kicks off September 25

The high handicap Tortugas Polo Open Championship (Abierto de Tortugas)organized by Tortugas Country Club  begins on September 25 th. The first event will be the Emilio Anchorena Cup which together with Hurlingham Club and Palermo are part of the Triple Crown of Argentine Polo Championship. Teams with the greatest handicap in the world will participate in this prestigious event. All matches will be played on fields at Tortugas, ruta Panamericana Ramal Pilar km. 38.5

Two new outfits will be playing the opening match: Pilará, with Hilario Ulloa, Francisco Bensadón, Sebastián Merlos and Francisco de Narváez, Jr., against La Natividad, with Pablo Pieres, Ignacio Heguy, Rodrigo Ribeiro de Andrade and Bartolomé Castagnola, as part of the Zone A teams.

Also in Zone A will be Ellerstina, while in Zone B are La Dolfina, La Aguada and Alegrí­a. Each group’s winner will make it to the final, scheduled for Saturday, October 13th.

Tortugas Country Club was founded in 1926 and affilliated in 1927. The Copa Emilio Anchorena was instituted in 1907 and was awarded by the Argentine Polo Association as a trophy for the Tortugas Open Championship, when it was started in 1958. The 2011 edition of Tortugas Open Polo Championship was awarded to Ellerstina team.

The Argentine Open Polo Championship (2012 – 119 th edition) has been taking place every year since 1893 at the Catedral del Polo in Palermo, the largest barrio (district) in the north of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.
