New luxury hotel and retail complex in New York, with largest ferris wheel in the world
The world’s largest ferris wheel rising to 625ft (190m) tall ( 84ft – 25m higher than the current record holder – the Singapore Flyer) will be the key attraction of a new luxury mixed use complex in New York estimated at US$ 230 million.
As part of BFC Partners’ Harbor Commons development, the new project on Staten Island will include a 120,000 sq ft (11,148 sq m) 200-room hotel and a 50,000 sq ft (32,516 sq m) retail complex featuring 100 designer outlet stores. New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg said: “The New York Wheel will be an attraction unlike any other in New York City — even unlike any other on the planet. It will offer unparalleled and breathtaking views, and is sure to become one of the premier attractions in New York City and the latest exciting addition to our newly revitalized waterfront,” he added.
Construction of the attraction will commence in early 2014, with a grand opening planned for late 2015, after which it is expected to be open 365 days a year.
