Montblanc, the ultimate arts and culture brand
With the occasion of the 2012 edition of the prestigious Salzburg Festival, Montblanc has once again reaffirmed its commitment to supporting culture, by supporting the Young Directors Project, which the brand launched in 2002. The Young Directors Project is an annual theatre competition for young, upcoming international theatre directors and their ensembles.
Montblanc sponsors the selection of productions and their invitation to Salzburg, while covering any costs for the organisation. In addition to the overall sponsorship of the highly acclaimed cultural project, Montblanc also donates the prize for the winner of the Young Directors Project. The winning ensemble and director will receive €10,000 in prize money and the Montblanc Max Reinhardt pen exclusively designed for this project.
On July 31 st, 2012 Montblanc celebrated the premiere of “Trapped“ by Tick Tock Productions / South Africa at the Young Directors Project 2012 with a glamorous reception, followed by the Montblanc premiere party at the Gallery of Young Directors Project jury member Thaddaeus Ropac in Salzburg. Special guests from all over the world like actresses Teri Hatcher, Rosario Dawson andSarah Marshall, designer Jean Claude Jitrois and actor Clemens Schick as well as friends of the brand such as the artist couple EVA & ADELE joined the event and supported this year event.
For the creation of this year’s special edition the designers from the Montblanc Artisan Studios in Hamburg were inspired by William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”, which Max Reinhardt produced on many occasions. “Double, double, toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble” – with these words the spell is cast by the three witches who are visited by the royal commander Macbeth to have his destiny foretold. This scene is engraved in three-dimensional relief on the 925 sterling silver cap. The barrel is made of red jasper and symbolises the bloodshed and sorrow caused by Macbeth.
The hand-crafted, rhodium-plated, 18 carat gold nib is engraved with the silhouette of the fortress of Hohensalzburg. The special edition “Hommage à Max Reinhardt” is limited to 20 pieces worldwide and is only available during the Salzburg Summer Festival (20 July to 2 September 2012) from the Montblanc boutique in Salzburg, at the price of 15.000 euros. By acquiring the limited edition fountain pen, Montblanc customers and collectors keep alive the Young Directors Project.
