MARIELLA BURANI’s troubles leading to bankruptcy

Troubled Italian fashion house Mariella Burani Fashion Group has been struggling for the past months, searching sollutions for restructuring. Previous attemps to agree on a restructuring have failed. The house has scheduled a new board meeting for December 16th and luxury industry experts expect decision for bankruptcy protection. At the end of September 2009 the group reported a debt of EUR 478,9 million.

The group owns the Mariella Burani and Rene Lezard brands and produces under licence the fashion lines of Ungaro (Fuchsia line), Vivienne Westwood (Anglomania line) and Alviero Martini. The Mariella Burani Group also owns Antichi Pelletieri which is specialized in the production of leather goods (own brands Coccinelle, Baldini, Francesco Biasia and licences Missoni, Aquascutum etc).
