Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group no longer manages resort in Chiang Mai, Thailand

After having pulled out of an ultra luxury resort in Marrakech 2 years ago, which eventually opened under management of Taj Hotels & Palaces and losing the management contract for its resort in Riviera Maya (Playa del Carmen),  Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (MOHG) announced this week it will no longer manage the Dhara Dhevi Resort Hotel in Chiang Mai (Northern Thailand) as of 31st August 2013. The management contract was signed in 2005 and expires 31st August 2013, therefore the decision was not to renew the contract.

A statement from MOHG said: “The owner and Mandarin Oriental have different aspirations for its management and long-term development. We wish them continued success with this award-winning property.” The hotel will now operate as The Dhara Dhevi and Dhara Dhevi Hotel Company will resume management of the property.

Market sources indicated Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and InterContinental (IHG) as the leading contenders to take over the management of the The Dhara Dhevi.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s was unable to pursue its Mandarin Oriental Beijing project, within the CCTV Towers, in advance stages of construction, which due to a fire, was closed indefinitely in 2009.
