L’Oreal to buy Decléor and Carita from Shiseido

Cosmetics giant L’Oreal is reported to be in advanced talks with Japanese group Shiseido for the acquision of Decléor and Carita. iN 2012, Decléor/Carita registered a turnover of 1oo million euros, which ranks the group as number two on the worldwide professional skin care market in beauty institutes, spas and hair salons.

Decléor was founded in 1974 as the first aromatherapy brand in the world, while Carita, was founded in 1945 by Maria and Rosy Carita, embodies French ‘savoir faire’ in French skincare.

L’Oreal has made an offer to Shiseido for the two brands and Shiseido has granted exclusivity for talks with L’Oreal, a formal agreement could be reached within weeks, according to L’Oreal. “This project is a wonderful opportunity for our Division to become a major player in this strategic professional beauty market, complementary to hair salons. Decléor and Carita are two beautiful, prominent beauty institute brands, particularly well-established in Western Europe. Their growth perspectives, especially internationally, are very promising,” said An Verhulst-Santos, President Professional Products Division L’Oréal.
