Kiev – top international location of InterContinental Hotels

Opened in 2009, InterContinental Kiev, capital of Ukraine, has been an amazing surprise, especially as a walk in guest.Although I am an Ambassador Gold Member of InterConti, I have has many negative experiences in several other locations such as New York, Beirut, Prague and usually I have been recently literally avoiding  InterContinental hotels, especially considering the perks one gets with the card are insignificant.

InterContinental Kiev has been built, designed and conceived to match the standard of the flagship InterContinental property inLondon Park Lane, which is the best IHG hotel in the world.Kiev InterContinental impresses with its perfect location in the heart of the city, very comfortable rooms (huge comfy beds, top class bathrooms), top dining with lobby bistro and restaurants open till 2 am daily.

Its tasteful decor and furniture resembles many other InterContinentals especially The Grand InterContinental in Paris, yet its amenities and details are better quality (i.e. top quality hangers) and state of the art quality airconditioning. Free wifi internet and the complimentary minibar are a nice surprise, otherwise unseen in other InterContinental Hotels where at most a bottle of water is free of charge only if turndown is done. Top in room dining with a very nice selection of local dishes and the best selection of infusion teas and another suprise: F&B outlets are open till 2 am…

However, despite these impressive ”physical features” there are many service shortcomings especially in Front Office and Concierge (never being greeted at entering the hotel, no record of personal preferences such as newspaper, room location (proximity to elevators, floor etc), no name recognition and the intimidating bodyguards always ”on call”.

Yet, I am sure the German/Austrian management will be able to tackle all these issues, considering the very high quality of human resources.
