After acquiring several assets from Starwood Hotels in Italy, most prominently the Excelsior Gallia Hotel in Milan, Qatar’s Katara Hospitality has formalized the acquisition of the iconic Roman hotel of Westin Excelsior Hotel for €222 million.
The property will continue to be managed by Starwood Hotels under a long-term third party agreement, similarly to the Excelsior Gallia, Milan which is operated under the Luxury Collection brand.
The Westin Excelsior Rome has a large accommodations inventory for a luxury property – 281 rooms and 35 suites. However, it is yet uncertain whether Katara Hospitality will opt to retain the Westin brand for the Excelsior Hotel in Rome, given its prestige and location on prominent Via Veneto.
Katara Hospitality inaugurated in May the Excelsior Gallia Hotel in Milan following a 500 million euros investment in the extensive renovation of the hotel which took 4 years to achieve under a complete closure.
