JUMEIRAH eyes further expansion in Europe

Dubai based Jumeirah Hotels, which already manages two hotels in London and one in Frankfurt confirmed the opening of two new hotel, one in Mallorca (Spain)  and one in Baku (Azerbaijan).  Jumeirah Hotels CEO, Gerald Lawless also confirmed that several other European discussions were under negotiations.  He also added that Jumeirah will double the number of hotels under management over the next 14 months.

Since most of the future properties will be managed by Jumeirah, rather than being directly owned, Lawless said the group saw no need for substantial financing. In his interview with Reuters, Gerald Lawless indicated it was difficult to say whether Dubai was seeing an additional influx of tourists to Dubai due to regional unrest.

Occupancy levels at Jumeirah’s hotels in Dubai reached 80.5 percent, Lawless said, up 6 percent from a year earlier (20 percent of visitors came from the United Kingdom, 14 percent from Russia, and there were increasing numbers from China)
