India’s Kerala becomes top destination for Russians
Over 20,000 Russian tourists are expected to arrive in Kerala (India) between October and March 2013, compensating for the impact of falling visitor numbers from traditional European markets. Fifty-seven charter flights from Russia have been scheduled, with the number of Russsian tourists expected to double, compare to last year. The first such flight carrying 150 passengers will arrive in Trivandrum on October 17, followed by at least a flight each week thereafter. Although some travel industry executives welcome the new development, some caution that such charter flights could destroy the destination’s cultural appeal.
