Illy Caffe pursue diversification into other premium food sectors
Leading premium Italian coffee maker Illy, which registered a turnover of 400 million euros, with a presence in over 30 countries, is pursuing aggressively its other product divisions – chocolate, wine etc. Illy controls 100% of Domori fine chocolates, 77% of Daman Frere (teas), 100% of premium icecream brand Mastrojani In 2011 (latest available figures), the non coffee business of Illy reporte a turnover of 9 million euros.
The local Italian market has been weak for Illy in 2012 (cafes and ditribution to F&B), however, its B2B business to corporate, Mitaca (jointly with Indesit) has grown 15% in Italy, despite strong competitor Nespresso. In foreign markets, Illycaffe has been growing steadily, the company having set up two subsidiaries, one in Brazil and one in China to oversee closely the distribution.
