Hotel G Yangon opens in Myanmar

Yangon is a city abundant not only with ancient temples and pagodas, but also a booming contemporary design, culinary and music scene.  The city will gain it’s first lifestyle hotel on 7 September 2017 with the debut of Hotel G Yangon, an 85-room design hotel located at the heart of Yangon’s vibrant entertainment neighborhood, with art galleries, shopping malls, the famous Bogyoke Aung San (Scott’s) market and Yangon’s central railway station right on its doorstep.

This next generation hotel is managed by GCP Hospitality, who operates Hotels G with a network of properties in Singapore, Bangkok, Pattaya, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and scheduled openings in Beijing, Perth and Seoul.  Hotel G Yangon will have all the intuitive technology, super-fast connectivity and understated style that savvy modern travellers crave, alongside creatively designed social spaces, a premium eatery & bar and fully equipped fitness centre.

At the heart of Hotel G Yangon will be an open plan lobby and signature Babett Eatery & Bar, a trendy chic area with exposed brickwork, wooden tables and suede banquettes where guests and locals can relax, refuel and reconnect.  Babett, open throughout the day, will offer breakfast on the go and leisurely brunches, pizzas from a wood-fired grill, sharing platters of cold cuts & cheese, and daily specials from Executive Chef, Javier Ballesta.  Like its sister restaurants: Ginett Singapore and Scarlett Hong Kong & Bangkok, Babett will become a social hub, where guests can update their blog over a coffee, share a craft beer with fellow travellers, or join one of the communal tables to share a metre-long sharing board while swapping tales of adventure.  As the day comes to a close, guest mixologists or bartenders will serve cocktails and wines by the glass and bottle from an extensive list, while a regular roster of some of Myanmar and Asia’s up-and-coming DJs will provide a laid back soundtrack into the night.

Hotel G Yangon will have 85 fully equipped rooms ranging from 15 m2 to 30 m2 across four room categories – Good, Great, Greater and Greatest.  Rooms have been designed in wood tones that contrast with vividly coloured walls and artworks with a modern graphic take on Myanmar’s design heritage.  All rooms have complimentary WIFI; a handy phone with free local & international calls and data while roaming in Yangon; Bluetooth stereo alarm; LED smart TV; an e-reader application through which guests can access 6,000 international newspapers and magazines; safe; and tea and coffee making facilities.

Hotel G Yangon will also have a bright and airy 500 m2 Real Fitness ExpressTM gym, with a range of state-of-the-art equipment, including treadmills, free weights and mat areas.  Off the lobby will be a G Shop, stocking Hotel G branded accessories and essentials, as well as modern and vibrant hand-made crafts and must-have design pieces sourced from throughout Myanmar in collaboration with a local fair-trade design collective: Hla Day.

Hotel G Yangon sits in a prime location in the lively district of Yaw Min Gyi, just a few minutes’ drive from the world-famous Shwedagon Pagoda and downtown Yangon with its historic colonial buildings. Yaw Min Gyi is a neighborhood where locals and foreigners live and mingle.  It remains authentic and has kept its soul. In the streets, various restaurants (French, Myanmar, Japanese, Korean, etc.) mix with street food shops, small vendors of exotic fruits, vegetables and flowers, as well as traditional workshops such as shoemakers. Just few minutes walk from Hotel G Yangon, there is the traditional Bogyoke Aung San (Scott’s) market, which sells an eclectic mix of food, flowers, lacquer ware, souvenirs, gems, jewelry, tailor shops, traditional Myanmar longyi, and musical instruments
