Hit by weak sales, French jeweller Cartier reduces working hours
From November, 230 employees at Cartier’s watch factory in Villars-sur-Glane in western Switzerland will have to stay at home for three days a week. “This has become necessary in the current economic environment. The aim is to preserve employment,” a spokesperson confirmed, adding the duration had not yet been determined. Cartier (Richemont Group), which employs about 1,600 people in Switzerland, reduced working hours for several months in 2009 as the financial crisis took hold.
