Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg celebrates its 250th anniversary
To celebrate its 250th anniversary the Hermitage State Museum in St Petersburg is hosting a series of special events and launches new features. Hermitage’s “Sputniks,” satellite exhibition spaces have been set up in Amsterdam, Vyborg, and now in Venice, along with the Hermitage Kazan in Russia. Future Sputnik exhibits will be opened in Barcelona and in Russia in Vladivostok and in Omsk.
Later this year, Hermitage Museum St Petersburg is opening its owns research library to the public in a new building in Staraya Derevnya designed by OMA’s Rem Koolhaas. The museum has also expanded its digtal presence with virtual tours of collections and research materials.
The Hermitage recently developed an iPhone and Android app for the museum, which features many of its masterpieces. In addition, the museum’s communications platforms includ a newspaper, a magazine, a television station, and Radio Hermitage.
A celebration of imperial court life exhibition will be opened in Spring, while in June, the Hermitage St Petersburg will host the 10th edition of Manifesta, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art.
