Hermes’ Shang Xia arrives in Paris, its first boutique outside China
Launched in 2010 by French luxury maison Hermes, Shang Xia was conceived as a brand nurturing Chinese creativity, craftsmanship and quality of raw materials. After two stores in China, first opened in Shanghai in 2010 and a second one in Beijing in 2012, the first Shang Xia store outside China is due to open in Paris September 12, in the Saint-Germain des Prés neighborhood, within close proximity to an Hermes store.
The first Shang Xia in Paris will cover a mere 70 sqm and will feature both ready to wear, home-wear and accessories. According to a statement by Hermes International CEO, Patrick Thomas to AFP, the Shang Xia boutique in Paris will serve as a test for non-Chinese consumer. He also admitted that the brand is not yet profitable, however, the goal of ‘transferring’ Hermes’ philosophy to a brand made and created in China has already been achieved. A fourth Shang Xia store, the largest (400 sqm) is scheduled to open in Shanghai next year.
