Girard Perregaux to launch mechanical models with innovative technology, in 2013
Following the acquisition of Girard Perregaux earlier this year, PPR Group has been pursuing the repositioning as haute gamme (high end luxury) of the Swiss watch brand, which is estimated to produce up to 20.000 watches in 2012 (the manufacturing capacity being of 40.000 watches). In a recent interview to Le Figaro, CEO of PPR Group Francois Henri Pinault also confirmed that the newly employed maitre specialist Dominique Loiseau will develop a Girard Perregaux line of mechanical watches with an innovative approach, a line which will be launched in 2013.
Girard Perregaux will pursue collaborations with other PPR Group brands, already producing mechanisms for Boucheron jewellery watches and the furnishing the calibre for the first high end luxury watch of Bottega Veneta. Girard Perregaux will also benefit from the distribution of Gucci timepieces. For the 2013 Swiss watch exhibitions, Girard Perregaux, Boucheron and Gucci will have a joint stand.
Francois Henri Pinault also explained that the group has no plans for Gucci to produce high end luxury watches, considering optimal the current positioning of quality Swiss made Gucci watches ranging from 1.000 to 6.000 euros. He also added that under the creative direction of Frida Giannini, over 600.000 Gucci watches were sold in 2011. In the case of Bottega Veneta, the house will only launch one high end luxury watch model, in line with the positioning of the high end jewellery of the house.
