Galleries Lafayette Paris celebrate centenary with series of special events

Starting with October 16th, Parisian iconic department store and architectural landmark, Galleries Lafayette is hosting a series of events to celebrate its 100th year anniversary. The start of festivities will be marked with an exhibition entitled “1912-2012: Chronicles of a creative journey” which will be presented at the Galerie des Galeries (first floor of the store) from 16 October 2012 to 26 January 2013. Conceived by architect Rem Koolhaas and OMA, the exhibition examines 100 years of history, the construction of the dome of the store, built in 1912 by architect Ferdinand Chanut and master glassmaker Jacques Gruber . Visitors will discover several archival documents, such as publications, photographs, posters, or even movies and videos.

Contemporary artist Yann Kersalé has designed ”Chrysalis,” a light installation on the façade of the store, which kicks off on Monday, October 15 at 19:30. Intended to continue throughout the year, this luminous work evolves with the seasons. The artist also worked inside the dome, giving back to their original luster balconies with a specific set of lights, also durable.

Finally, to extend this anniversary, the Galeries Lafayette publish a book published by La Martinière dedicated this store to become, over time, an emblematic Parisian shopping.
