Review 21 May 2009In spite of current economic conditions, TOM FORD is one of the few brands with a solid future outlook. Formerlly the designer who revived Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford set up his own label dedicated to mens luxury wear in 2006, with the first store opening in New York. In a recent visit to the Milan flagship store of Tom Ford, we have been impressed with the exceptionally luxurious concept and design. The impecable mens line aims at directly competing with KITON and BRIONI, yet, bringing a modern twist, for which Tom Ford is so famous for. We were also surprised to see top football players such as Cruz Ricardo of InterMilan to shop at Tom Ford, especially since fooball players have been loyal customers of Dolce Gabbana or Gucci. It seems tastes are evolving, and design is does not suffice in todays market. Consumers are looking at quality as a very important attribute. All Tom Ford suits are made of the highest quality Italian fabrics and are manufactured in Italy. The shoes line is worthy of a comparison with reference hand made shoes maker BERLUTI.
It remains to be seen how Tom Ford will find the motivation for a marketing strategy to tap on all these essential attributes. Pricing is another issue the management should address, especially considering the upper point is higher than most made to mesure products.
