SPA, a Segment of Opportunities for Growth

Opportunities      05 March 2009

The SPA sector, one of the least developed segments of the luxury industry in Central and Eastern Europe, is gaining strength in becoming a viable opportunity which is positively stimulated by the actual financial crisis. Until now, the SPA concept was represented only by health clubs and cosmetics and hair parlor.

However, now more and more clients are requesting 5* international SPA treatments, just like those provided by the renowned brands in the field and which they experienced in their travels abroad. In the same time, a staggeringly high number of entrepreneurs and luxury business owners have started to noticed the demand for professional SPA services at an international standard.

The very few SPA locations in Bucharest, such as Bali SPA (Radisson SAS) and Blues Line (Hilton), are regarded quite poorly by the customers, as their standards are nowhere near those of a luxury SPA concept. I have saluted the initiative brought forth by the Tiriac Holding to include a Shiseido SPA in the luxury residential complex Stejarii, although the brand hasn’t officially confirmed the new opening.

Also, the long awaited opening of the E’SPA in the Radisson SAS hotel from Poiana Brasov, will surely be postponed if not cancelled in the nearby future, even though E’SPA would have been the ideal solution for the project. The reasons behind these possible delays are given by the fact that the SPA section did not benefit from a separate strategy from the real estate project, as a different operator and different financing and management would have been needed.
