As a climax to its 90th birthday celebrations, GUCCI inaugurates on Monday its museum in Florence, Italy. Housed in the impressive 19th Palazzo di Mercanzia in Florence's Piazza della Signoria, the Gucci Museum features a hall dedicated to travel, with heritage luggage pieces from 50's, 60', 70' as well as the Gucci customized Cadillac. Other halls in the museum: ''Sera'', dedicated to a retrospective of the most spectacular Gucci evening gowns; ''Mondo flora'' illustrating Gucci's flower print patterns; ''Logomania'' showcasing the evolution of the double G logo, with sports and lifestyle branded items. In an interview to Italian media, Frida Giannini, Creative Director of Gucci, admits there are several items from Gucci's archives that she prefers not to show to the public, therefore they were not included in the permanent exhibits. The basement cave of the museum which is not open to the general public stores Gucci's vast archive of original sketches, photos, documents which have been carefully preserved and filed to document Gucci's immense cultural heritage. The second floor of the museum also includes an exhibit of rare china and interior decoration pieces.admitted she had been working on a home collection for Gucci, however, it will not be launched until a suitable manufacturer will be identified. A bookshop developed with Italian specialist Rizzoli, a coffee shop and an exclusive boutique complete the offering of the Gucci Museum. On sale at the small boutique are iconic pieces such handbags - the new Jackie, the new Bamboo as well as a Flora scarf designed exclusively for the Museum. Besides the permanent exhibits, the Gucci museum will also feature installations of contemporary art collections selected by Fondazione Pinault, established by Francois Pinault, owner of Gucci. Currently, on show, is the Tristan Ascension contemporary art installation by Richard Wagner Tristano.
