News      12 June 2009

Following an enquiry at Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest, MINISTRY OF TOURISM has discovered a series of major legal breaches. The hotel which is managed by Hilton is currently majority owned by Ana Hotels of Romanian businessman George Copos. The entire operation of the hotel has recently been shifted to a new a new private entity without notification of authorities. The second issue which has prompted the immediate downgrading is the fact that Athenee Palace Hilton do no longer have parking space. Copos who is mostly known for its ownership of Rapid football club has been in financial distress since mid 2008. Since Copos became majority shareholder, the renovation plans have been constantly delayed and financial performance of the hotel as been in constant decline.
