EDITION Hotels to debut in China with Sanya EDITION

EDITION Hotels, a partnership between hotelier Ian Schrager and Marriott, has announced its first property in China in the beachfront destination of Sanya on Hainan Island, located off the country’s southern coast. The Sanya EDITION is located on 50 landscaped acres and offers 215,278 square feet of private beach looking out on the South China Sea. Hong Kong-based studio CAP Atelier and Singapore-based studio SCDA Architects collaborated on the property’s design.

The reception area reflects the duality in the hotel’s design, juxtaposing contemporary culture with simple sophistication. A traditional lotus pool and a live bamboo grove will offer a counterpoint to the curated art gallery, showcasing work from Chinese artists. A series of teak pavilions frames the property’s private ocean upon arrival.

Included among the hotel’s 512 residential-style guestrooms are 46 suites and 17 terraced, hillside villas—each of which includes a private pool and outdoor space. The villas emphasize wood and stone textures as well as light oak finishes and airy fabrics to evoke a comfortable, beachy ambiance. Spacious, light-filled rooms will contrast stone floors against a clean, light color palette, and Loft suites boast sleek finishes.

Onsite dining includes the Market at EDITION, which will reference Sanya’s history as a trading port. The design is reminiscent of an old Chinese warehouse with rustic wood and faded tiles. The Jade Egret evokes an atmosphere inspired by the interior of a yacht, while Indonesian offering Beach Barbacoa captures casual beachside dining. Accessible by boat, seafood restaurant Xian Hai By the Sea will serve guests atop an illuminated floating platform and include a custom fishpond. The rooftop bar is outfitted with a pool and enjoys an open layout and sleek design.

The Spa at the Sanya EDITION will feature 11 treatment rooms and a small village of family cabanas and relaxation pavilions. Playland at EDITION will offer a slew of entertainment options for families, from bumper cars to mini golf. Lifestyle retail shop, the Limited EDITION, is curated with artwork from 80 Chinese artists and 100 designers. Spanning 14,000 square feet, the grand ballroom, the Sanya EDITION’s Forum, accommodates up to 900 guests, and the meeting center will be equipped with teak floors and louvered wood panel walls that open to a sunken, spacious courtyard. An adjacently located amphitheater will host open-air concerts and events.

EDITION Sanya is expected to open during late Fall 2016.
