Dubai Opera to boost the city’s luxury hospitality market

The Dubai Opera will be as iconic in appearance as the world-famous Sydney Opera House, developer EMAAR has earlier said in a statement. Atkins is the architect while Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) is the main contractor for the project.

The Dubai Opera House is being built as part of plans for The Opera District in Downtown Dubai, and will be used for opera, theatre, concerts, art exhibitions, orchestra, film, sports events and seasonal programmes. The opera is expected to attract several tourists from the GCC and neighbouring countries, which is expected to boost the hotel occupancy in surrounding Downtown hotels.

The Dubai Opera is designed to resemble a dhow, a traditional sailing vessel, in which the ‘bow’ of the structure will house the opera’s mainstage, orchestra and seating, while the elongated ‘hull’ will have waiting areas, taxi drop-off areas, and parking.
