Italy’s appeals court upheld a verdict issued last June against Dolce&Gabbana on charges of using Luxembourg holding company Gado to avoid paying taxes on royalties of about 1 billion euros ($1.38 billion). Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana and accountant Luciano Patellito have been sentenced to one year and six months of jail time. They will not have to serve time in custody, however, as the sentences handed down are below the two-year minimum sentence requiring actual jail time.
Dolce and Gabbana have consistently denied the charges. Dolce&Gabbana’s lawyers have said they would appeal the decision to Italy’s highest court.
