Counterfeiting in luxury up by 5% with losses of 14 million euros
According to ECCIA (European Cultural and Creative Industries Alliance) counterfeiting in Europe has grown by 5% in 2011, totalling losses of over 14 million euros. ECCIA includes French luxury association Comite Colbert as well as luxury associations from Italy, Spain and Germany. Speaking on counterfeiting, Elisabeth Ponsolle des Portes, the head of Comite Colbert said ”We need to establish that online retailers have the same legal responsibilities as our stores”. Comite Colbert is also committed to fighting counterfeiting by involving major credit card companies such as Visa as well as postal services. In response EU Commissioner Antonio Tajani has pledge a full scale study with findings available next year.
