Boosted by the government law, which gives all hotels, build until 2018, a tax concession for 30 years, Colombia is seeing a surge in new projects with over 9,000 hotel rooms currently under construction, adding to the existing 60,000. The number of tourists has tripled, reaching 1,8 million foreign visitors in 2013.
Among the luxury projects currently under development are: Grand Hyatt, Bogota (297 rooms, scheduled 2015), Hyatt Regency, Cartagena (261 room and 74 apartments, scheduled 2015) and Hyatt Regency, Cali. Intercontinental Hotel in Cartagena is scheduled to open this summer. By 2018, three Marriott Hotels are planned for Medellín, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga.
