Chanel’s new Haute Joaillerie collection which will be launched officially in Paris during the July Haute Couture Week, is made up of 58 pieces inspired by the iconography and symbolism of the lion - the favourite zodiac sign of Coco Chanel. The collection is priced between 30.000 (Venetian Lion ring) and 3,3 million euros (Lion royal necklace with removable and adjustable between frames platinum and diamonds of different cuts).
‘In our creative journey in the world evocative of Coco, the lion and of course the Serenissima are two elements-obsession. Places and concepts from which she drew her inspiration and now we want to bring new life to the ultimate collection of fine jewelry of the house, with the hope and intention to make this a timeless classic element of our collections also in the Haute Joaillerie,’ Benjamin Comar, director of Chanel Jewelry told MFF, on the occasion of the official presentation, which took place in the setting of La Misericordia.
The new Chanel jewellery collection ‘Sous le signe du lion’ (‘Under the Sign of the Lion’) is the first to be manufactured in the jewellery atelier of the maison which Chanel inaugurated on Place Vendôme in 2012. In celebration of Chanel’s presence in Venice the house will make a a donation for the restoration of the mosaics of the Basilica of San Marco representing the winged lion. “Our celebration is 360 degrees in the spirit of Mademoiselle Chanel who arrived in the Republic of the Doges for the first time in 1920 and was influenced by the city but also from her encouters with Sergei Diaghilev of the Ballets Russes.’ said Comar.
The house of Chanel, which celebrated the 80th birthday of its jewelry collections also announced the opening of a new jewelry flagship store in Geneva later this year.
