Bernard Arnault’s ‘pillars’ Dior & Vuitton celebrate opening of Vuitton Foundation in Paris
France’s richest man and owner of luxury giant LVMH inaugurated Thursday his latest megalomania project ”Fondation Louis Vuitton’‘, on the outskirts of Paris. (next one – ”La Samaritaine” expected 2017). Mr Arnault was joined by many celebrities but most notably Raf Simons (Creative Director DIOR), Maron Cotillard (Brand Ambassador DIOR), Michelle Williams (Brand Ambassador LOUIS VUITTON) and Nicolas Ghesquière (Creative Director LOUIS VUITTON).
The first stage of the inauguration is dedicated to discovering the architecture of the Fondation’s building, which had been overseen by Frank Gehry. Alongside a select group of emblematic works from the collections of Christian Boltanski, Pierre Huyghe, Ellsworth Kelly, Bertrand Lavier, Gerhard Richter and Thomas Schütte, commissioned works by Ellsworth Kelly, Olafur Eliasson, Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, Sarah Morris, Taryn Simon, Cerith Wyn Evans and Adrian Villar Rojas will also be on display.
Artistic events (choreography, poetry, musical performances and sonic sculpture) by Tarek Atoui, Oliver Beer, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Florian Hecker, Kraftwerk and Noé Soulier will complete an audiovisual progression from the pool to the terraces that resonates in harmony with the building. On October 28th, the Foundation will host a classic concert by Lang Lang whose repertoire will include Mozart, Chopin, Liszt et Tchaïkovsky.
The Louis Vuitton Foundation also features the ‘Le Frank’ Restaurant headed by Jean-Louis Nomicos, Michelin-starred chef and owner of the restaurant ‘Les Tablettes’ on Avenue Bugeaud in Paris.
Louis Vuitton Foundation in figures: 13,500 sqm surface (7,000 net surface) / 19,000 Ductal concrete pieces (béton blanc fibré) / 3,850 sqm museums exhibitions spaces, 11 galleries, 360 to 1,000 seats in the auditorium.
