Bergdorf Goodman unveils renovation of the main floor (women’s floor)

New York department store Bergdorf Goodman has revealed the completed second phase of its 2020 renovation, which in time will see a total overhaul of its trading space.

The main floor of the womenswear store is now complete, joining the fine jewellery areas that were unveiled before Christmas.  The new succession of salons house an extensive accessories and leather goods department that transforms an assortment that was in two parts of the store, bringing them together to create more authority and coherence.

Using the Beaux Arts building as its inspiration and foil, the design palettes for the floor has made the most of original decorative plaster work and mouldings. Crystal chandeliers and blue Savoie marble floors add to the grand look, while walls are painted a sheer and pearlised grey and glass display cases are edged with bronze.

Significantly, a 12ft by 12ft window has been added on the 58th Street side of the building, giving a fantastic view out to Central Park. There is also a new marble arched entrance on 57th Street into the fine jewellery rooms.

The next phase of Bergdorf Goodman’s renovation will be the transformation of the eighth and ninth floors, former office space, into an additional 25,000 sq ft of trading floors.
