Alina Cojocaru, a top international ballerina and a Romanian ambassador worlwide

Alina Cojocaru with Edward Watson

One would be able to call her Giselle, Juliet, Aurora, Swanilda, Kitri, Odette or Odile. Bust she would ask you to call her simply ALINA. She is Alina Cojocaru, London Royal Ballet’s first ballerina. Alina was only 9 year old when her dream to become a ballerina took her to Kiev and since, she has been one of the most acclaimed ballerinas worldwide. With world renowned soprano, Angela Gheorghiu, Alina is one of the two Romanian ambassadors internationally.

Alina lives in London, yet she travels the world, spending more time on stage than in her own home. She has graced the stages of all major theatres and operas of the most famous capital cities, yet she is still amazed by the two legendary Russian stages of Bolshoi and Mariinski.

Unlike Angela Gheorghiu, renowned for her work and unique talent, yet also known as a very difficult personality which has often created conflicts at the highest levels at Scala Milan or Met in New York, Alina Cojocaru could not be more modest, down to earth, with a very friendly and warm nature. Despite her fame and international recognition, she has remained a simple young lady who misses her native land and above all, the traditional Romanian food which her mother masters.

Everything about her manner is luxury. She is most gracious and elegant on stage and at formal functions and the most smart casual dressed teenager when she is on a plane or simply dining with friends at her favorite restaurants. Alina Cojocaru shares with Angela Gheorghiu the finest and most discerning tastes, and although they could both afford the most expensive jewelry or dresses, their image is never about brands or recognizable luxury items. They both prefer couture dresses made exclusively for them by designers they never mention and they wear the most elegant diamonds without the ‘’bling’’ factor.
