ADELE, a music legend at 23
Her recent album has spent eleven consecutive weeks at number one in the UK, the longest ever by a female solo artist on the UK Albums Chart, surpassing Madonna’s nine weeks at number one in 1990 with her greatest hits compilation. In the US the album has spent a total of twelve weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 to date, the most weeks at number one since 2000. The album has also broken the record for the most UK digital downloads. As of May 2011 the singer was worth £6 million, tying her with Lily Allen and Duffy for 9th place on the list of the richest British and Irish music stars under the age of 30.
Meet ADELE, the 23 year old soul diva sensation, whose two albums have not only generated immense commercial success but have also earned her the unconditional appreciation of crirtics, worldwide. To me, most impressive about Adele is her natural and effortless manner in all her performances and public appearances, instilling her audience a unique confidence. In the interview for the October issue of British Vogue, when asked about theentertainment industry’s obsession with weight, Adele said “I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I don’t want that in my life. I have insecurities, of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.” In an earlier interview, Adele also said ”I hope I never become a playgirl !”
Her performance of ”Someone Like You” at Brit Awards in February this year is probably the memorable of her career, to date. With her pulled up hair, wearing a classic dress in brown with discreet sequins. In a world of special effects, lasers and eleborate stage acts, Adele only needed her voice and a piano to win over the hearts of the audience. It is one of the few performances she would actually show her emotional side, overwhelmed by the love of the audience. Adele’s most impressive sensitive appearance remains her acceptance speech of her Grammy award.
During her recent interview on the Jonathan Ross show in the UK, Adele also revealed her very funny side, with an immense sense of humour and an infectious laugh. While maintaining her confidence, she speaks about how she is not affected by fame, how she dislikes touring and performing in large venues and how she get easily amused with the reaction of her fans at live performances.
Adele expresses her strong character and self confidence in the way she dresses and wears her hair or make up. While never speaking of favourite designers or outfit styles, she admits being very particular about her hair and make up, which she re-touches herself if needed. Despite her classic and sometimes retro look, she reaches out to an incredibly wide target audience, from youngsters to elderly. The only other young artist which commands the same success among different generations is Michael Buble, with his unique voice and stylish, timeless look.
Rolex has already reached out to Buble signing him for an image campaign of DateJust watch while Armani has created some of his outfits. High end jewellery and haute couture brands could find in Adele, a young diva who embodies an entire array of values, so rare to find nowadays. It remains to be seen whether Adele would feel the same…
