A third of German consumers purchase deliberately counterfeited goods

According to German authorities, the country’s counterfeiting market is evaluated at 50 billion euros. Last year, the Ministry of Industry estimate that 30 percent of Germans deliberately purchased counterfeited goods, especially luxury branded goods. The consumer segment is dominated by youngsters aged 18-25 (over half)/ The Federal Council is presently working on increasing the current penalty of 3 months in prison for those selling counterfeited goods. The German Ministry of Industry and Commerce will jointly set up with the German Federation of Industries, an organization which will enhance the fight against counterfeiting.
